What do You see?
A modern Rorschach Test
You scan the scene looking for the best angle to capture the beauty, composition and light of the scene you sought out and made a significant effort to get to the perfect vantage point. But occasionally the picture might be the earth right in front of your feet…A few summers back I was in Lubbock, Texas and noticed a strange pattern in a mud flat that caught my eye, so I pointed my Pentax Spotmatic down and the image above is what I captured on Kodachrome 64, digitized recently. Through the years when I showed it to friends and asked them what they saw, the most common answer was: ‘brains’, or ‘guts’, but almost no one said dried mud, most likely because mud doesn’t seem to dry in a luminous pattern like that in on the east coast where I live these days.
Once again, look up, look down, don’t miss the image that will later remind you of that beautiful autumn day you took a walk and autumn colors were everywhere, even on the black asphalt under your feet. It may not win an award but it will serve as a lovely reminder of the preciousness of an otherwise ordinary day when the weather was plesant and you decided to take a walk before the light fell
